Firefighters attended a St Marychurch Road this afternoon, after a fire in a fish and chip shop broke out. 

Traffic was diverted, but has now resumed as normal. 

It has been reported the shop was The Usual Plaice. 

A spokesperson for the Devon and Cornwall Fire Service said: "Firefighters attended a fire caused by a cooker in a fish and chip shop this afternoon. The shop was evacuated and the fire was extinguished using a hose reel and jet as well as breathing apparatus.
