Brixham pensioner says thank-you to NHS staff
Torbay Hospital - like hospitals throughout the county and rest of the country - will be going through its toughest and most challenging times of the year at the moment.
With national reports of an increase in people in hospitals with Covid, flu and winter sickness bugs, the pressure is on.
But that doesn't mean doctors and nurses and the rest of the hospital staff will care less and will try to do their best.
The Torbay Weekly has received this touching letter from Brixham pensioner Ron Powell which says it all.
Mr Powell writes: “I am writing to you from Torbay Hospital, Dunlop Ward, Room 21 on Christmas Eve, 4.50pm, 2023.
“Since the death of my wife on March 25, 2023 I have attended hospital for heart failure countless times. I have been treated by the virtual ward and all departments as and where needed.
“All you read about in the so-called press about the negativity of the rotten NHS is absolute nonsense.
“Torbay Hospital is run like a well oiled machine. I have observed and listened over countless months - to the teams of consultants, doctors and highly trained nurses.
“They are beautiful teams of male and female personnel from overseas and our English teams. Dedicated staff of cleaners and caterers ensure spotless wards and facilities that are beyond any hospital in my opinion.
“The courtesy they display to each patient is heart warming and in time I hope to be well again.
“I also would like to thank Mayfield Surgery in Paignton, Cherrybrook and Brixham Hospital, from reception staff to doctors and nurses - for setting me on this long course to recovery.”
