Vandals hit Green Mile

Torbay's new Green Mile is going great guns - but vandals are trying to spoil the fun and enjoyment.
Bay sports champion Roger Mann originally came up with the idea of a marked area round Paignton Green so people of all shapes and sizes could exercise.

The Mile petered out in recent years but it was brought back to life as the Green Mile in memory of the late former Torbay Sports Council chairman and president who died a year ago.

Local play cafe Hyperspace Paignton revitalised the Mile around the Green working with Partington Print and Sport Torbay.

Hyberspace's Lesley Morrison, pictured, says: “We have had several mums coming to visit us saying how much they enjoy following the Hyperspace Mile. It's lovely to think we are encouraging people to link exercise with fun.”

But she revealed: “Unfortunately we have had to replace two of our markers already as they have been ripped off leaving sharp metal edges. I cannot believe how selfish people can be and have spent the recent days close to tears. It is so sad that as we try to better the community some try to drag us down.”

She appealed to people: “If you see others committing criminal acts to property to make a note of the time and let the victims know. Pass on details so CCTV teams can help prosecute them.”
