Police have confirmed a man's body was discovered close to the grounds of a Torbay secondary school.

Police and forensic officers cordoned off an area alongside St Cuthbert Mayne School at the bottom of Westhill in Torquay yesterday (Saturday December 23).

A 'privacy' sheet was erected on part of the school fence while investigations of the scene were carried out.

Speculation was mounting that a body had been found but police could not confirm that at the time.

Now a police spokesperson has confirmed: "A male was located deceased in the vicinity of Westhill Road. His identity has yet to be confirmed and the circumstances surrounding the death are unexplained but not thought to be suspicious."
