Christmas Carol Concert

The Torquay Rock Choir has celebrated Christmas with its first ‘sell out’ Yuletide show
The event at the All Saints Church in Babbacombe, Torquay, was in aid of the RNLI in Torbay.
The Rock Choir has been singing together since 2017 and has now grown to a singing membership of over 120 Rockies!
Musical director Richard Toomer, said: “We have been together as a choir now for six years and have seen the membership grow and the choir really flourish since the pandemic.
“I wanted to challenge the members this year by having a more traditional Christmas concert and the opportunity to sing in a beautiful acoustic in front of a sell-out audience.
“The concert at All Saints Church was just perfect! A beautiful church with a lovely acoustic for singing and not a seat to be had in the audience. The Rockies certainly stepped up to the challenge and did me and of course themselves very proud.”
Supporting local charities has always been a priority for the Rock Choir members, and they are proud to announce that they have raised more than £2,000 this term.
As well as the sell out concert they have also raised money at their Monday night choir sessions by having tea and coffee and cake as well as fancy dress nights and a Christmas jumper night and raffle.
Richard said: “We are very proud to have raised such a good amount of money for the RNLI this term and this comes on the back of raising £5,000 for Guide Dogs Southwest last year.
“The Rockies are such a generous and lovely group of people who love helping others when they can by doing something that they all love – singing! We find that singing with others helps our mood and our confidence and enables a much better mental and physical health. We are a sociable group who love being together whether that be at a choir rehearsal or at one of the many social evenings throughout the term.”
He added: “Rock Choir is an all-inclusive choir and we don’t ask anyone to audition or have any choir experience. Everyone is welcome! You just need to have love of singing and a sense of fun and you will fit right in!”
Rehearsals start again on Monday January 8 with Green Green Grass by George Ezra.
