Preston Food Club

Community matters in Torbay

I want to share with you some exciting projects in Preston!
The first is about the wonderful Preston Baptist Church Food Club and Garden Café.
The Garden Café initially began with great coffee, tea and delicious homemade cakes served by a small group of willing volunteers.
From December 2022 until March 2023, the café took part in the Government Warm Space Initiative, offering hearty winter soups, breads, homemade cakes, and other refreshments in a warm and welcoming space.
The café also offered a confidential listening ear and still continues to provide this invaluable service.
Preston Food Club runs on Thursdays between 10am and 1pm, making fresh, sustainable, and good-quality food affordable to individuals, the elderly, vulnerable, disabled, and households on low incomes in the community whilst building community connections.
The Club offers healthy, nutritious food and other essential items at a fraction of what these items would cost in a regular supermarket. Become a member and choose the items that you and your family want to and can eat (subject to availability on the day), including fresh meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables, toiletries and household products. Membership is open for single households, couples and larger households. Complete an application form to become a member.
The Club works on a points scheme. Convert money for points, which can then be exchanged for items, enabling members to save between 70 and 75 per cent of their retail value.
For more information call in and see them any Thursday or call and leave a message or send a text to 07708 253999. The Garden Café opens every Thursday from 9.15am to 2pm (last food orders 1pm). There is no charge in the Café, but donations are welcome.
Preston Food Club opens every Thursday from 10am to 1pm. Registration criteria may apply.
The other thing I want to share with you is a stretch class that is scientifically designed to keep you mobile, flexible, and active. So helping reduce the incidence of injuries and all types of pain.
It is run by retired physiotherapist Maggie Gilboy, who understands the need for stretching. So, join her for a safe, scientific class which includes upper body and neck stretches as well as a section for balance, long held floor stretches and finishes with a five minute relaxation.
The classes start on Monday, January 8 at Preston Baptist Church, Old Torquay Road, TQ3 2RB. Use the café entrance. Every Monday 18:15 to 19:15. If you are interested call, text or What’s App Maggie on 07812 656070. To contact me, email ninacooper@torbaycdt.org.uk or call 07929 335915
