Music legends in Torbay

It was when Torquay attracted the rich and famous - before they were rich and famous.
Some of the world's now pop music legends and household names once took to the Torquay Town Hall concert stage.
And you can bet your best old vinyl that Lionel Digby wasn't too far away.
The Torquay businessman, who spent decades working out of Market Street, was the music impresario behind most of the 'gigs'. He and well-known Torbay musician Drew Millin as well as other guests took a trip down the musical memory with South Devon Radio presenter Tony Sdrinko the other day.
Torbay Weekly photographer Stephen Coombes was there to capture the moment and some pictorial memories from the past.
He said: “Torquay is where it all happened as I would say in the good old days. To be able to see famous and up and coming bands for very little money was very exciting and something you would look forward to seeing. I spent four hours with DJ Tony, Lionel Digby, Drew, Colin Reece and Lee Brown on the live show. £1.50 to see David Bowie! This must bring back some happy memories to lots of people who remember the 60s,70s and 80s. Thanks for a great show and live music and chat.”
Lionel will also be well-known as a costumier, providing the costumes for some of the big screen's (abd stars) most famous films. He is also a standard bearer for the local Royal British Legion.
