Tackling youth homelessness in Torbay

Generous members of the Paignton Lions Club have presented a cheque for £1,000 to Nightstop who are based in the YMCA at Paignton, tackling youth homelessness in Torbay.
Nightstop provides safe and secure accommodation for young people aged 16 – 25 who are or at risk of being homeless. Young people stay with volunteer host who will provide them with their own room, evening meal and breakfast, washing facilities, clothes wash and dry, and someone to talk to or a quiet place to have some headspace.
YMCA South Devon, where Nightstop is based, says it relies on ordinary people who host young people who are experiencing homelessness in their spare room. They say they also need people who can be Nightstop drivers to put young people’s minds at ease as they make their way to the volunteer’s home.
The volunteers come from all backgrounds, but they have one thing in common – they all want to make sure that no young person sleeps in an unsafe place ever again.
