Bloom teams are celebrating after winning gold for their community

Green-fingered volunteers striking gold

Green-fingered volunteers have been celebrating striking gold in Torquay.
The Babbacombe Bay in Bloom volunteer groups won another Gold from the South West in Bloom competition 2023.
They also scooped the Gold award in the Sargent Cup for the best in class - this cup returns to Torbay for the first time in 52 years,
Volunteer Ian Cawley was blooming delighted at the outcomes.
He said: “It is something even more to be proud of.”
Area results were as follows: Babbacombe Bay, gold; St Marychurch Precinct, outstanding; Millennium Copse, St Marychurch, outstanding; Chilcote Memorial Corner, St Marychurch, outstanding; Petit Plot, St Marychurch, outstanding; Rose Garden, Babbacombe, outstanding; Babbacombe Downs Buglife bed, outstanding; Tessier Gardens, thriving; Abbey School, thriving.
Gold business awards were presented to Babbacombe Model Village and Babbacombe Inn Cary Arms and Spa.
An Outstanding Services to South West in Bloom award was given to Ian, chairman of Babbacombe Bay Bloomers.
The Inclusive Gardening award was given to Shirley Holbrook of St Marychurch.
Ian said: “Britain in Bloom is not just about flowers now, it includes community and environment. We are so lucky to have so much of it here in Babbacombe and St Marychurch.”
South West in Bloom is one of sixteen regional and national competitions that make up RHS Britain in Bloom, which is the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe.
The aim of the community groups that take part each year is to improve and regenerate local environments and neighbourhoods and sweep away eyesores that blight streets.
