News from the theatre world

The Unleashed Theatre Company is breaking new ground with its latest production.
The Lady in the Van will be the first full length play performed by the company since it moved into its new home, the Royal Lyceum, in Abbey Road, Torquay.
The play will be most familiar to many as a feature length film starring Maggie Smith based on the original play by Alan Bennett.
It tells the real-life story of Miss Shepherd who moved the van she used as home on to Bennett's driveway. She was difficult and rude but was allowed to stay there for 15 years.
The company aims to entertain as well as deliver a message - its community drama group meets every Thursday with many who have experienced challenges in life including homelessness.
Director Jude Earnshaw says: "The play is extremely funny as Miss Shepherd is a unique personality and Alan Bennett has a sharp sense of the absurd in dealing with her."
The play runs between November 22 and 25 nightly at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets for the play can be booked at www.unleashedtheatrecompany.com
