Paignton RFC
Another great victory for Paignton Rugby Club
Paignton supporters are relishing the arrival of St Ives at Queen’s Park this Saturday after the Cherries continued their impressive run in the Tribute South West Western West Division with a 50-19 rout of Bude at the weekend.
Martin Worthington’s side followed up their victory at previous leaders Kingsbridge seven days before to move up to fourth place, two points behind this weekend’s opponents.
Kingsbridge bounced back to win 37-12 at St Ives, and the top of the table now reads – Plymstock Albion Oaks 37, Kingsbridge 37, St Ives 30, Paignton 28, Pirates Amateurs 28.
The Cherries led Bude 19-12 at the interval before powering away in the second half, eventually winning with tries by Dewald Stoop 2, Jack Carlisle 2, Liam Cleaver 2, Henry Hoare and Brad McKee, who also kicked ten points.
There were narrow away defeats for Brixham in Regional One and for Torquay Athletic which saw them knocked off the top of Devon Division.
The Fishermen led Lydney 15-12 at half-time in Gloucestershire and took the lead again (22-20) in the second half.
But Lydney recovered to win 32-29 and Brixham had to be content with two bonus points care of tries by debutant Louie Drennan, Harry Rodwell, Ricky Workman, J-P Simonetti and Jamie Hext.
It’s much tighter at the top of Reg One after leaders Chew Valley lost at Launceston, with wins for Devonport Services (25-17 at Ivybridge) and Barnstaple (34-25) at Matson.
The top now reads: Chew Valley 37, Barnstaple 35, Services 35, Launceston 33. Launceston have a game in hand, at Brixham, which they are due to play on November 25, the next ‘break’ in the season.
The Tics led 7-3 at the interval at Withycombe, but were pegged back and lost 12-16. Scrum-half Callum Crocker scored both their tries at Raleigh Park.
Devonport Services 2nds, who ‘walked over’ Exmouth 2nds, take over at the top, which reads – Services 39, Torquay 37, Barnstaple 2nds 32, Withycombe 31.
And there’s a ‘big one’ at the Rec’ this Saturday – Tics v Services.
