Lighthouse Challenge
The Moors, canals and a lighthouse - runners from Torbay Amateur Athletic Club have been leading varied sporting lives
Torbay AAC were among the 441 runners that finished the Tavy 7 on Sunday. Competitors were reluctant to get under starters orders due to torrential rain and most preferred to stay in the race HQ tent. However once underway most completed the seven-mile undulating road race across Dartmoor before the next downpours. Anthony Raine finished 4th in his Age Category in 72nd position in 50.34
Natasha Syratt ran The Grand Canal Canter marathon and had a great run finishing 2nd female and achieving a personal best time on the gorgeous canal course in a time of 4:02:54
Charlotte Philippou was also at the Grand Canal Canter in Tiverton. The half marathon took runners along the canal to Sampford Peverell and back. The race started in beautiful sunshine, but within an hour runners had heavy rain to contend with, making it a soggy, muddy run. Charlotte achieved a PB of 2.26.36
Anita Merritt completed the inaugural Lighthouse Marathon in 7 hours 54 minutes, reporting that it was the hardest race she had ever done. There was so much mud, water and hail stones, not to mention the rocks to scramble up, cliff edges to avoid and a navigational challenge for the last four miles around sand dunes.
