Torquay Rowing Club staged the final regatta of the Coastal Rowing League’s nine regatta season with their Pier2Pier event in Tor Bay. The event attracted 98 entries from 129 competitors, the season’s highest entry in the League with rowers from as far away as Dover, Shoreham and Herne Bay competing.
Sea conditions were flat calm at the start of the event but chopped up early afternoon to provide some exciting rowing. There was some excellent rowing with some really close finishes on occasions. Torquay’s Barbara Mears won the Women’s single sculls 60+ and teamed up with clubmate Jane Nichols to take second place in the Women’s double sculls 50+.
At the end of the full day’s racing, crews retired to the Royal Torbay Yacht Club for the prizegiving. As this was the last regatta of the season the championship awards were also handed out.
Barbara Mears was pronounced Women’s single sculls 60+ Champion again.
