Brixham police ASB message for youths

Police in Brixham have issued a stern 'we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour' message.

They have revealed on social media that after a 'relatively uneventful summer,' they have, unfortunately, had a number of reports in the last few weeks of youths engaged in anti-social behaviour in the town centre, local hospital grounds and in Bolton Street.

The said on the post: "Young people are entitled to meet up together but when their behaviour impacts the wider community, we, as the police, will not tolerate it.

"We wish youngsters and their parents to be aware that we can enact powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 to move people on who we believe are engaged in anti-social behaviour.

"Section 35 of the Act requires a person committing or likely to commit anti-social behaviour, crime or disorder to leave an area for 48 hours.  Failure to comply with a direction to leave given by a uniformed officer in an area that has been specified by a Police Inspector (or above) is a criminal offence and may result in imprisonment and/or a fine.  Anyone under 16 who is given a direction to leave can be taken home or to a place of safety."

They added: "The police do not want to impinge on people enjoying themselves but anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and, if necessary, powers under the above act will be utilised."
