A roadworks boost for motorists - the scheme at the Windy Corner junction into Brixham is to be completed two weeks ahead of schedule. This means that traffic will be back to normal for the rush-hour on Monday morning.
It will be welcome news for commuters, visitors and business traffic travelling to and from Brixham.
The scheme is part of a programme of improvements on Brixham Road to widen junctions and increase traffic flows because of the Inglewood housing development.
The work by Openreach to rebuild and lower a communications equipment chamber in the road at Windy Corner started on Monday October 2 and was scheduled to last five weeks. But the scheme is due to be finished by the end of Friday October 20, two weeks early.
Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet member for Pride in Place, Culture and Events, and Parking, said: "As a resident who lives on the Brixham side of the Windy Corner junction, I fully understand the disruption caused by major road works at this important junction.
"This is why I am very pleased that Council officers have been able to work with the Inglewood developers and the various contractors involved to get these works completed two weeks ahead of the previously agreed timescales."
The works needed to be done ahead of the next phase of changes to the junction, following approval of the Inglewood housing development between Brixham and Paignton.
That phase will involve widening the road to create two lanes southbound along the Dartmouth Road to improve traffic flows. These works, due to last 14 weeks, are now planned to start in mid-September 2024.
A separate scheme of improvements is ongoing at the junction of Brixham Road with Long Road and Goodrington Road and this also results from the Inglewood development.
