Coastguard rescue teams on flood-hit Torquay seafront Pic Torbay Coastguard Rescue Team
Coastguard rescue teams played their part as Storm Babet hit the resort.
Torbay Coastguard Rescue Team responded along with Paignton Coastguard Rescue Team and Brixham Coastguard Rescue Team to reports of coastal flooding along Torquay seafront.
Initial reports suggested people could be trapped in cars which were parked in the Torre Abbey area. Coastguards were able to confirm that nobody was in difficulty and then diverted their attention to offering safety advice to people who were venturing too close to the large waves which were overtopping the roaring.
These waves, which had already moved two shipping containers which had been positioned on the sea wall, were dropping stones and other debris on to the road.
After colleagues from the Brixham team were diverted to another incident in the Brixham area, Torbay teams requested additional support from Dawlish Coastguard.
Teams stood down in the early hours. They returned this morning to continue their safety cover until the high tide receded.
