United fund-raising effort for children's ward hits the target

Torquay United hospital visit

Torquay United players Lewis Collins and Jack Stobbs have paid a special visit to Torbay Hospital

Lewis and Jack popped into the Louisa Cary Ward to see for themselves the new equipment they had helped to fund.
The ward cares for children aged up to 18 with any medical, surgical or psychological conditions requiring inpatient care.
With a new monitor to measure a child’s carbon dioxide levels quickly being identified as a priority, United challenged everyone connected with the club – players, staff and the Yellow Army fans – to unite together in aid of this worthy cause.
With proceeds from last December’s FA Cup Shirt and February’s Signed Football raffles both being donated, the club was delighted to reach the target required to buy the vital piece of equipment.
The Gulls duo watched Sister Janet Sykes giving a demonstration of how the equipment works with the help of a training dummy.
Janet, expressed her gratitude before explaining how much of an impact the generosity will ultimately have in years to come.
“We would like to send a very big thank you to the Torquay United players, fans, and staff for their very generous donation, which has allowed us to purchase a carbon dioxide monitor to use on our High Dependency Unit ward," she said.
“This monitor will make a big difference to the care our children receive when they are very sick, as it allows the medical team to monitor their carbon dioxide levels, a critical part of information in a child’s medical treatment plan.”
“We came into Torbay Hospital to have a look at the new monitor that has been purchased through fundraising for the hospital,” began Lewis.
Lewis said: "It’s really nice for me and Jack to see what goes on inside, and how much of a difference the fundraising money can actually make for the hospital because it can save many lives in that sense and it’s really, really, nice to see.”
Jack added: "It’s nice to see how much this can make a difference to many young children and whoever needs it going forward."
United have thanked supporters who put bids in on auction items, purchased raffle tickets and donated to the fundraising initiative.
