Another month closes and it’s time to announce the Fish of the Month winner.
Some excellent fish have been entered this month especially with the Torbay Festival taking place and once again it has been difficult to pick the winner, however I feel that one of the fish caught in the festival is deserving of the prize, the 24lbs 2oz Turbot caught by Gary Harding, a prize pack from one of our kind sponsors, Sidewinder Lures will be on its way to him soon.
Newbarn Angling centre continues to see some good fish being landed. Ian Herring fished island Pool using match tactics and had a surprise with a double figure Carp. Willow Lake saw Billy Grant fish a short session where he landed a near 20lb Common Carp.
Spring ponds latest competition saw Jason Fay take the honours with a bag weight of 58lbs 8oz on a day which saw the Carp difficult to catch early on, resulting in him targeting silver fish initially and then the Carp. Second spot went to Kev Wells with 52lbs 14oz and Luke Germon took third with 49lbs 10oz. Successful baits on the day were pellet and sweetcorn.
Tony white visited Slapton, where there were plenty of small bait fish being chased by prey fish. Instead of fishing his usual soft plastic lures he opted for metal lures and had a great time land several Bass.
Wayne Hand has been on his travels recently but was pleased to be back on home ground finding Black Bream still eager to take his baits on Chesil Beach. Junior angler Archie Sweetland fished an open competition at Burnham on sea on difficult windy conditions and after missing a couple of good bites changed tactics and land a find Conger eel of 13lbs 8oz giving him third place, beating many senior anglers.
The CHART Tuna tagging programme is producing excellent results, with six weeks of the season gone over 600 Bluefin Tuna have been tagged and released mainly from the South coast of the country showing what a great fishery we have. There is still plenty of time to catch one of these great sportfish with Spot ON and Silver Halo operating out of Torbay. The programme runs until December.
