Mid-Devon Cycling Club news

Mid-Devon Cycling Club continue to dominate the younger age-groups after the first two rounds of the South-West Cyclo-Cross League.
Following a strong show at Coxleigh Barton, near Barnstaple, the action switched in heavy rain to Cricket St Thomas at the weekend.
More than 150 riders braved the muddy conditions with victories for Matthew Holmes, Lauren Fox, Ed Selwood and veteran Cathy Kilburn.
Leading results: U12 – 2 Ben Ward, 6 Ben Simcock, 7 Oliver Gray, 8 Freddie Simcock; U14 – 1 Matt Holmes; 1 Lauren Fox. Under-16 – 2 Jacob Start; Junior – 1 Ed Selwood; VetO50 – 1 Cathy Kilburn, 4 Nicky Quant.
This Saturday sees the annual MDCC Hill Climb Double’ of Haytor (9am) and then Widecombe (11am).
The 3.1 miles up Haytor and the shorter but steeper one-mile ascent from Widecombe are very different tests, with Olympian Chris Boardman’s time of 4mins 10secs at the 1990 National Championships there still the course record.
Time Trial result (MDCC unless stated): Royal Navy/Royal Marines CA 10-Mile TT (Buckfastleigh) – 1 George Kimber (Embark Spirit) 19mins 3secs, 2 Conrad Moss (NOPINZ) 19.19, 4 James Pearcy 19.55, 6 Don Brooks 20.11, 16 Kevin Weymouth 21.58; Ladies – 1 Maria Weymouth 25.07, Caitlin Moss 28.16.
