South Devon's hosepipe ban is being lifted.
The news will comes as little surprise after a month's rain fell across the area in just 24 hours at the weekend causing widespread chaos and disruption.
The decision to lift the ban was revealed in a letter to Torbay MP Kevin Foster from Pennon Group Chief Executive Officer Susan Davy.
She said: "Firstly, I’d like to thank you, your constituents and our customers for their patience and support in recent
months. As I outlined last month, thanks to the collaboration of our customers and our early investments, we
have together helped ensure the region had enough water to keep the taps running during the drought.
Our teams have been closely monitoring water resources, the weather and demand, and working closely
with the Environment Agency have determined that in addition to lifting the hosepipe ban in Cornwall and
Upper Tamar on September 25, we are now in a position to also lift the ban covering parts of Devon."
She added: "I am sure this will be welcome news to you and your constituents across Torbay. While these actions have
been important to replenish the water stores we need today, we have also been bringing new water
resources online for tomorrow.
"Climate change has shown how unpredictable weather patterns can be and
we must continue to protect the region’s rivers and beautiful natural resources."
Mr Foster said: "After the recent wet weather it is no surprise the hosepipe ban is ending, but it is still very welcome."
