Police appeal for information
Two teenagers remain in custody today as a murder investigation is launched following the stabbing of a man in Torquay.
Police were alerted by members of the public just after 3.30pm on Sunday September 17 to reports that a man had been seriously assaulted on Ellacombe Church Road.
Officers were immediately deployed along with the Devon Air Ambulance.
Despite best efforts of everyone at the scene, the victim, a local man in his 30s, was declared dead.
Detective Inspector IIona Rosson from the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who lost his life yesterday.
“A murder investigation has been launched and we have been granted a 12-hour custody extension to continuing questioning two men, a 19-year-old and an 18-year-old, who were arrested yesterday in connection with the incident.
“As part of our investigation, a scene guard remains in place on Ellacombe Church Road and officers are continuing with their house-to-house enquiries.
“We have set up the following Major Incident Public Portal; Public Portal (mipp.police.uk), which means information can be provided by members of the public without the need to pick up the phone.
“Anyone with information can also contact us via 101 quoting reference number 50230252005.”
Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
