Sophie Tolchard Bowls England
Sophie Tolchard is a bowls champion
Sophie Tolchard of Torquay's Kings Bowling Club has added to her honour-laden career with a gold medal at the World Outdoor Championships in Queensland, Australia.
Playing with Jamie-Lea Marshall (Leics), Lorraine Kuhler from Oxford and Lincolnshire's Amy Pharaoh, Tolchard helped to beat Wales (14-13) and New Zealand (20-10) before overcoming Australia 14-10 in the final on the Gold Coast.
She also reached the Quarter-Finals of the Women's Pairs with Pharaoh.
There was disappointment for Sophie's brother Sam Tolchard, who headed Down Under as England's No.1 and the World Champion of Champions titleholder.
Tolchard swept through the First Round-Robin stage, winning all ten of his matches, but he lost in the Quarters to Scotland's Ian McLean 21-16.
But two more Kings players, Louis Ridout and Jamie Walker, returned with a bronze medal - with Nick Brett, they beat Japan 17-14 in the Quarters but lost 13-23 to Scotland in the last-four.
