Latest rugby round-up from Devon
Brixham had stormed back in the closing stages to snatch a 34-34 home draw with promoted St Austell on the opening day of the Tribute South West Regional One season, but it was a different story away to relegated Barnstaple.
The Fishermen, with Mitch Pinkus back at fly-half, led 20-13 early in the second half at Pottington Road when Jamie Hext scored their third try.
That followed first-half scores by Bobby Wigginton, whose two late tries had earned the draw with Saints, and Matt Crosscombe, with Pinkus adding a penalty and a conversion.
But this time it was Barum who hit back to win 33-20.
Weston-super-Mare at Astley Park is next up for Brixham.
There were Regional Two defeats for Newton Abbot - their 28-41 loss at just-promoted Topsham was a decent effort and Teignmouth, who were pipped 31-32 by North Petherton at Bitton Park.
A powerful first-half display by Paignton earned the Cherries a confidence-boosting 21-17 win at Wiveliscombe.
Matt Worthington's side led 14-5 at half-time at the Recreation Ground and held on for a victory which should see them in good heart for the visit of Tavistock on Saturday.
This week also sees the start of work on a £33,000 upgrade for the floodlights at Queen's Park.
It will not only help to make things brighter, but the improvements will reduce energy consumption and costs and lessen the impact on neighbouring properties.
It's two-from-two in Counties Two Devon for Torquay Athletic, who followed up their Day One rout of Ivybridge 2nds with another home win, 26-16 over Exeter Saracens.
There were tries for Jonny Brown and a Matt Allanson hat-trick, with Lewis Crocker adding three conversions at the Rec'.
