If the first day is anything to go by, Brixham Rugby Club fans are in for a treat this season after another big crowd at Astley Park was treated to a stirring fightback which saw the Fisherman draw 34-34 with St Austell.
Brixham trailed the newly-promoted Saints 20-34 with only six minutes left as the Tribute South West Regional One campaign got under way.
But two late tries by new signing Bobby Wigginton, both converted by Joel Ashworth, had home fans on their feet and secured an important draw.
The Fishermen actually led 10-0 early on - Ashworth converted Jamie Hext's try and also struck a penalty - but the Cornish visitors then took over for long periods.
They led 24-10 before Matt Crosscombe scored his spectacular 100th try for the club, breaking from his own '22' and running the length of the field, and Ricky Workman also crossed to make it 20-24.
But when Saints held that 14-point lead so close to 'no side', it looked all up for Brixham.
Then former colt Wigginton, who has returned to the club this season, made it a memorable return 'debut'.
There was a big win for Torquay Athletic, who laid down a marker for their Counties Two Devon campaign with a 53-10 win over Ivybridge 2nd XV at the Recreation Ground.
The Tics ran in tries by Jonny Brown, Ryan Hannauer (2), Harvey Dent (2), Ash Sharp, Alex Loewy, Mitch Eagling and Isaac Fahey, with Lewis Crocker adding four conversions.
Paignton started their Counties One Western West season with a 31-12 defeat at Plymstock Albion Oaks.
Harry Law and Liam Cleaver crossed for the Cherries, with Brad McKee adding the 'extras'.
In the Regional Two derby at Rackerhayes, Teignmouth quietened a big crowd with a 34-10 win over hosts Newton Abbot.
