Civic lunch with the Cadets
New Torbay civic mayor Mayor Mark Spacagna got his year in office off to a flying start with his first fund-raising civic lunch
The event, held at the Headland Hotel in Torquay, was attended by more than 75 guests and raised £712.50 for the Mayor’s charities, Rowcroft Hospice and the Torbay Hospital League of Friends.
Guest speakers were Bridget Day, who founded Friends of Rowcroft, and Debbi Shotton, senior fund-raising officer at the hospice, as well as Martin Tucker, vice-chairman of Torbay Hospital League of Friends, who was also there to represent the Rotary Club of Torquay.
Cllr Spacagna said: "I think we'd all agree, someone in this room or someone we're close to have been touched by the professionalism and caring nature of all those involved with both charities who dedicate their lives to help others."
He added: "I would like to thank 200 Squadron Air Training Corps for giving us a Guard of Honour and to Operations Manager Owen Condeer, Connor Ward, our Toastmaster, and the all team at the Headland Hotel.
“I would also like to thank No7 Fish Bistro, Different Corners Travel and Ollie’s Restaurant for donating vouchers for the raffle, and I would like to thank David Thomas, leader of the council, for assisting with the with the raffle”.
200 Squadron Flight Lieutenant John Harle said: "It was a privilege to support the Mayor and his civic event."
