Paignton grab six 'firsts' in final championship of season

The 178th Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, the final regatta in the West of England ARA 10-regatta Championship series, provided ideal weather and excellent rowing conditions with calm water. Two hundred and fourteen entries necessitated a 53 race programme over the 1,000 metre course on the river Dart with the eights and Senior A programmed for the 1,500 metre course.

The regatta had attracted crews from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and along the South Coast with particularly strong entries from Southampton Coalporters and BTC Southampton.

Paignton continued their successful season with a strong entry and ended the day with six wins. In the Championship events Yuria Allasia won the Open Novice single sculls and Kiera Brueton continued her outstanding season with a win at Ladies Novice single sculls. In the non-championship events Paignton recorded wins at Mixed Senior C coxed fours; Mixed coxed quadruple sculls; Under 17 double sculls; and Under 15 double sculls.

Paignton also marked up two second places and three third places. Torquay formed a composite crew with Paignton in the Ladies under 15 double sculls and sculled to third place.
