'Human community dynamo' Elieen Deacon has won special praise for helping to keep the people of Torbay safe

The 91-year-old has spent a lifetime bringing neighbourhoods together to protect residents and 'watch out' for crime and criminals.
She organised a Neighbourhood Watch event - supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez - at the Paignton Library and Information centre.
The 'Great Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator Get Together' was attended by the 'who’s who' of Paignton Neighbourhood Watches.
This gathering saw 15 different Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators from across Paignton representing over 500 Neighbourhood Watch members come together to network, focus on community safety and receive talks by several community organisations.
Talks were given by the Health Hub’s manager Jasmine Allen, as well as Local Community Builders, National Neighbourhood Watch members and event organiser Eileen, who is the Torbay Watch Office Lead. There were also stalls with the Police Diversity team, Fire Service, Samaritans and many more attending. There was lots of advice and support to enable the local Watches to be the very best for the benefit of the area.
Kevin Sproston, Devon and Cornwall Project Manager for National Neighbourhood Watch, said he was amazed how great the community is in Paignton, along with the huge amount of community volunteering work that is undertaken.
He has been working in the area to promote the Community Safety Charter, something that is designed for members of the public to recognise, report and support the community through receiving free online packs on various topics such as anti-social behaviour, harassment, hate crimes and more.
Then he singled out Eileen for special praise describing her as a 'human community dynamo' who, at the age of 91, had planned and executed such a fantastic event.
Kevin went further when he said: "To be a co-ordinator is one thing, but to be looking after the whole Torbay area and doing such a great job, while being as active and busy as she is, is next level. Simply put, she is Neighbourhood Watch royalty, and Torbay is incredibly lucky to have such an inspirational figure.”
The event also recognised Mrs Judith Perring, someone who has volunteered for Neighbourhood Watch for over 34 years. Given that Neighbourhood Watch has only been around for 40 years in England and Wales, this is a huge achievement. Judith, Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, first became involved in Neighbourhood Watch in 1987, and is still an active member today.
Torbay MP Kevin Foster acknowledged this accolade of service for the Torbay area and gave a welcome speech along with a presentation of flowers and signed certificate, acknowledged by the CEO of Neighbourhood Watch, John Haywood-Cripps.
On Judith, Mr Foster said: "Neighbourhood Watch is based on the community coming together to keep each other safe. Judith’s decades long contribution to this work has been exceptional and it was great to recognise this with the colleagues she has worked with.”
