Half-time 'words' do the trick for Torquay United

Gulls turn it around with two second-half goals at Slough Town

Most Torquay United fans would have loved to swap places with a fly on the wall of the Gulls' dressing-room during the interval at Slough Town, and even manager Gary Johnson admitted: "We had a word at half-time - as you can imagine."

United turned round a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 with Brad Ash's first two goals for the club, and a third successive victory sees them up to sixth place in the National League South, two points behind leaders Worthing.

"We had a real poor first half," admitted Johnson.

"We were OK for the first five minutes, but then it went downhill. We were losing 50/50s and we couldn't control the ball.

"We needed to up the tempo, and I thought the boys came out straight away and showed us that they could do that.

"And we knew that, if we could get going, we could go on and get the winner.

"It was nice to score the two goals at our supporters' end.

"Brad Ash wasn't getting the service in the first half, but when he decides to move, he can nick the ball off people as well as getting on the end of things.

"They were two great finishes, and a really good build-up for the second."

United have a quick turnaround before Braintree Town come to Plainmoor on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
