Brixham Town Council chair Michael Roseveare hit the right note when he interrupted a band rehearsing for a big music festival

The MusicAtTheEdge band were delighted to welcome Cllr Roseveare as he popped in to formally present the YES Brixham charity with a 'big’ cheque for a £2,500 grant towards funding the MusicAtTheEdge ‘YESTIVAL’ being held at Brixham Rugby Club on Sunday, August 27, the bank holiday weekend.
Cllr Roseveare explained that the council believes that it is part of its duty to residents to encourage and support the work done to help improve the lives of local people by many Brixham community groups and charities. The community music festival matches the objectives and criteria of the council and they were very happy to help.
Steve Leech, vice-chair and ‘a proud Brixham resident with a passion to see the community thrive' wanted to add a personal note wishing the music festival all the best and wholeheartedly hopes that it will become a successful, annual event for the town.
The MusicAtTheEdge community music project has been providing free-to-access music workshops for over a decade.
In addition to the regular Thursday afternoon community band workshops, there is now a Djembe Drumming Circle which meets on Monday afternoons. No previous experience is required. The group creates original drumming pieces inspired by popular music, the rhythm of individual names, and well-known phrases and sayings. A rock band workshop is also held on Thursday evenings. This is open to people between the age of 16 and 25.
The August 27 festival starts at 12 noon. As well as the MusicAtTheEdge band there is something for everyone. The hugely popular local tribute band, The Darkside of Pink Floyd will be headlining. The public can access the Rugby Club ground from 11am allowing time to register for a dog show, browse the stalls and check out the activities.
The entire event is supported by a vibrant team of volunteers. If you would like to help out on the day of the’ YESTIVAL’ see the contact details listed below. Should you have a skill to share and time to give you might like to consider getting involved with one of the many aspects of the YES Brixham community hub. For example, the charity has a shop in Fore Street, Brixham and the Edge hosts free, Thursday ‘Meet, Cook, Eat’ sessions.
