Amazing results for the Torquay school
Torquay Girls Grammar School Academy is feeling understandably satisfied after a sparkling set of GCSE results, coming just a week after similar success in the A Levels.
Sophie Bucklar, Head of Pastoral Care and Mrs Tania Grigg, Head of Sixth Form, paid tribute to the approach of all the students achieving their GCSE results in the summer of 2023.
Ms Bucklar said how impressed she was with the perseverance and resilience of our students in overcoming many challenges to go on and achieve such impressive results. These were students who began their GCSEs during the pandemic, and the first cohort to return to pre-pandemic grading.
Nearly a quarter of the students gained at least 7 top 8/9 grades. Spectacular results in the context of the pandemic, financial uncertainties and all the other challenges faced by our young people. What was particularly outstanding was the number of students who showed such consistency in gaining top grades.
Annemieke Karssens and Mattie Thomas achieved a full suite of 10 top grades. Honey Forty, Elle Kenefick, Selina Li, Frankie Opon and Alice Utting all achieved 9 top grades. What makes this particularly impressive, is that Frankie and Mattie were also in the successful 45 mile Ten Tors teams, competing the weekend before exams started.
Mrs Grigg said how delighted she was that so many of our students want to study A levels with us. This year has seen one of TGGS’s highest ever number of applications from both their own students and students from other schools.
Last week, the school celebrated huge success in A level results, and they are confident that this GCSE cohort can transfer their GCSE success to A level. Their future is bright!
Whilst demand for places in TGGS Sixth Form is very high this year, it is not too late to apply to study A Levels.
