Damaged collarbone for Torquay cyclist Harrison Wood
Torquay’s pro bike racer Harrison Wood is waiting for the results of a scan on a damaged collarbone after bravely finishing the Tour of Poland with an assortment of injuries.
Wood (Cofidis), 23, was taken out on the second of seven stages, when a motorbike crash led to several riders crashing in the WorldTour race.
He sustained shoulder, elbow and hip bruising, but stayed in the race, doing his best to support his senior teammates.
Former Mid-Devon CC starlet Wood is due to ride in Germany's BEMER Classics race on August 20, as long as his scans are clear, with Spain's Vuelta 'Grand Tour' (Aug 26-Sep17) as a possible future selection.
He won't ride in the Tour of Britain next month, but Newton Abbot's Harry Birchill, 22, is expected to be in the Saint Piran team for that event (Sept 3-20), although the nearest it comes to the South-West this year is the penultimate stage in Gloucestershire.
