Plymouth Regatta attracted an increased entry of 203 as opposed to 162 last year

Plymouth Regatta attracted an increased entry of 203 as opposed to 162 last year. This necessitated 46 races over the 1,000 metre course on the River Plym. Conditions were a little choppy with a steady tailwind which resulted in a few capsizes.
Paignton Rowing Club had a couple of wins with Ethan Frost and Yuri Allasia winning the Open double sculls and the Mixed Senior C coxed four, with one Dartmouth rower aboard, won their race.
Kiera Brueton had to settle for second place behind Plymouth’s Jenna Kempster-Taylor but Kiera’s results so far this season have put the club in pole position for the Ladies’ Novice single sculls Championship.
Paignton also took a few other second places including the Ladies Masters coxed fours; Open Under 15 coxed quadruple sculls; Ladies Under 16 double sculls; Sam Brueton at Open Under 16 single sculls; Hugo Dossett at Open Under 15 single sculls; Jacob Chalk at Open Under 13 single sculls; and Eva Birchell at Ladies Under 15 single sculls.
Torquay’s lone entry, William Jackson-Heritage, won the first race of the day, the Open Under 13 single sculls.
With Paignton Regatta having been cancelled twice and more recently Falmouth the ten Regatta West of England ARA Championship series is now down to eight regattas. The next regatta, Appledore & Instow, is on Sunday with Torquay on August 19 and Dartmouth on August 24.
