Summer reading challenge in Torbay Libraries

Torbay's libray service is encouraging children to take part in this year's Summer Reading Challenge.
Hadi - an eager reader, who is on holiday from Italy and has really enjoyed visiting Torquay Library and the beaches of Torbay. He read all six books for the challenge after joining.
The challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays – and to enjoy anything they like to read. Children aged between four and 11 are invited to set a reading goal and collect rewards for their reading.
It’s free to take part and last year, 75 per cent of children involved in the challenge improved their reading skills over the holidays.
Libraries Unlimited, who run the Bay's libraries say taking part in the challenge will help children be better prepared to return to school in the autumn, will support them move into a new year group and enable them to become more independent in their reading which boosts their confidence and self-esteem.
A spokesman said: "Library staff are on hand to offer support and book recommendations. The children will be part of a UK-wide programme developed by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with the public library network."
When a child signs up at their local libraryt they will set a reading goal for the summer and borrow and read books, eBooks and audiobooks. They can choose anything they like to read. They will also receive a Challenge folder and collect special stickers and rewards for reading, plus medal and certificate at the end.
The Libraries Unlimited spokesman said: "All libraries have great events on across summer all free or reasonably priced and any child from fout to 11can sign up right up to the last day which is September 9.
Torbay Libraries also hold a large number of games and host trails, in-library colouring and other activities.
Library membership is completely free.
