It has been a great year for exhibitions at Torquay Museum
It has been a great year for exhibitions at Torquay Museum with Six-Legged Superheroes and Hollywood Rome now on and Egyptian hieroglyphs on the way in October. Thanks to these blockbuster exhibitions, the Museum gift shop has a range of exciting new items on the shelves.
As part of our Six-Legged Superheroes offering, we have stocked a number of insect themed items including educational children’s books, jigsaws and even some bug themed chocolate. Most of this stock is on sale or return so once the exhibition ends it will no longer be on the shelves. Get it while you can!
Our big summer exhibition this year is all about the Romans and as such the gift shop has been filled with items on a Roman theme. We have rings, bracelets and pin badges on display as well as key rings, books and fabulous soft play shields and swords, ideal for summer sibling battles!
Later in the year, we are hosting a British Museum touring exhibition Egyptian hieroglyphs: unlock the mystery and the stock is already on the shelves! These items, direct from the British Museum’s London store include sphinx rubber ducks and a range of items featuring the Rosetta stone and the Book of the Dead. You can get your hands on tea towels, tote bags, wooden magnets, keychains and luggage tags, while stocks last.
Torquay Museum has recently introduced a rent-a-shelf scheme to sell products made by local artists. Currently on the shelves are an assortment of handcrafted jewellery and beautifully decorated seashells. You can support these artists and Torquay Museum at the same time.
As well as new stock we have some returning favourites, the plush sabre toothed tiger and mammoth toys have returned! We recently had a large restock from Nature Planet containing eco-friendly plush toys and stationary made out of recycled materials. We have also had a refill from Usborne and now boast a large range of children’s books, snap cards and jigsaws on subjects that tie into our exhibitions.
For our Agatha Christie fans, we continue to offer a great variety of second hand books and unique merchandise. In addition, new Agatha hardback books have come in from Harper Collins introducing updated covers that will look great on your book shelves. A new collection of short stories titled ‘Autumn Chills’ will be coming out on September 14 and will be available in the Museum gift shop.
Our product ranges are constantly changing and evolving. We are dedicated to stocking products that are educational, fun and sustainable along with the desire to make sure there is something at all price points. If you can’t travel to us, items are always being added to our online shop which you will find through a link on our website. The profits of everything we sell in our gift shop help support the charity and maintain Torquay Museum’s collections.
