Torquay brothers Jakub and Kacper Piwowar have enjoyed a medal-filled season, with success on the national and international stages
The boys, who both attend Torquay Academy, are part of the Table Tennis England performance pathway – 15-year-old Jakub is a member of the 20-strong National Training Squad, while Kacper, 12, is one of only five players in the GB Start squad.
Among their domestic successes, Kacper won two gold medals at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships, claiming both the singles and doubles titles in the Under-13 category.
Jakub narrowly missed out on emulating his brother as he won silver in both singles and doubles at Under-17 level, losing out to the top seed in the singles final.
The pair have also been active on the international circuit, both winning medals at tournaments in Sweden – Jakub took under-15 bronze in the Sweden Tour vent in Karlskrona, while Kacper won silver in both under-12 and under-13 categories at the Safir International in Orebro.
Kacper narrowly missed out on a medal at the European under-13 Championships, going out in the quarter-finals.
His next challenge will be in Rio de Janeiro – he is in an eight-strong team which has been selected to represent England at the ISF World Schools Gymnasiade in August.
Both boys will have plenty of opportunities to add to their successes at home and abroad in the 2023/24 season.
