Torbay AAC

Golden anniversary for local athletics

Last weekend, Torbay Amateur Athletics Club celebrated 50 years since the foundation of the club.
This event had been postponed due to Covid and the club was delighted to, at last, be able to gather together, dance and enjoy happy times.
Club members past and present celebrated 50 years of team spirit, past and current successes and old friends, the close, the far away and the passed, all remembered with great fondness and never lost, with beaming smiles in the archive of club photographs displayed throughout the event.
On the Friday night, it was the Erme Valley Relays, the club fielded nine teams in this popular local event. The success of the evening was with the Senior Female Team claiming third ladies Team with Oceania Lindgard (16:39), Rebecca Niles (18:29), Sophie Thompson (19:09) and Chloe Weeks (17:00) with a total of 71:17.
Junior females showed what the event was all about, running on senior teams and pushing each other to fantastic times and crossing the line hand in hand, with one athlete celebrating her birthday. The junior boys were the first team home for the club in position 16 against some of the strongest teams in the South West.
