Flight in a Spitfire
Time is running out to purchase a Brixham Lottery Card
Time is running out to purchase a Brixham Lottery Card following announcement that Lottery cards sales from retail outlets will be closing on August 1 - with the first prize a flight in a WW2 `Spitfire` or £1,000 cash alternative.
The public draw will be held at 5pm on Saturday August 5 in the Three Elms Public House in Drew Street, Brixham.
Musical entertainment will be provided by well-known local duo `Classic Gold`.
A spokesman said: "Everyone is invited to the draw and this is an opportunity to find out first hand who the winner is ! It is also an opportunity to meet some previous winners."
The attending public will be invited to draw individual winning numbers. The number will be circulated by usual means and people can phone 01803 852270 from Monday August 7. The holder of the winning card ticket (which has to be produced and verified) has until midnight October 1 to come forward and claim the prize.
John Brennan, chair of Brixham Future Community Interest Company, which promotes the Brixham Lottery, says: "The experience is for three hours in either a morning or afternoon slot. The winner will receive briefings about the facility, the aircraft, the flying equipment such as helmets and flight suits and you'll watch a video on the vintage Spitfire. Next, you'll meet the pilot and discuss with him what you'd like to do on your flight. Then get into the aircraft, taxi out for pre-flight checks and take-off."
Paul Addison, one of the chief organisers, adds: "The unique experience will see you flying out along the stunning South Devon coastline. En-route you'll enjoy the sight of the Spitfire's famous elliptical wing passing over England's green and pleasant land. If you elected to try some aerobatics you'll marvel at the power, manoeuvrability and grace of this aircraft.``
There are only limited Lottery Cards tickets available at a price of £10 per ticket. These are extremely good odds as only 550 are distributed. The spitfire flight cost £3,000 making the prize very attractive for a small outlay. It helps maintain this historic aircraft for generations to come.
The tickets are in the form of a card with envelope - so an ideal present item. There is no upper age limit but flyers have to be 18. There is a seventeen and half stone weight and good general health restriction set by the flying company.
There are only few Brixham Lottery Cards now available at a price of £10 per ticket from:
In Middle Street Flour Flower Cafe Crafty Cwtch –Welsh Cafe, Colours of Brixham –Art Shop, Chris Slack –Photographer In Fore Street, Doble Jewellers, Trinity Cake shop and`The Handyman`in Pillar Avenue
John says: "It would be great for everyone to see a resident or visitor, family or friends flying above Brixham! It could be you."
