Ellacombe to get its own community garden

Ellacombe Community Garden

Exciting news for Ellacombe – the launch of a new inspirational project

A community group is being formed, made up of local people / young people who wish to contribute to the future of the garden and make decisions on its use/opening hours/activities.
It is planned to be a fluid and adaptable space where the community decides what they want to do there and the group implements those wishes with them where it is possible, affordable, and safe to do so.
Ten-year-old Adela has come up with a winning design for the garden logo.
The ideas from the community for the grassy area, so far, are growing their own produce, creating a garden to be enjoyed by everyone, including seating areas and sensory corners. Training in organic gardening techniques will be available for those who wish to improve their skills.
The area at the top is becoming a young people‘s Wildlife Garden, supervised by the Ellacombe Community Youth Project. Here, young people are clearing and designing their own garden space. Their ideas include planting flowers, building wildlife habitats, creating artwork around the themes of their garden, designing water features, learning how to grow plants and how to protect the wildlife they attract.
For the young people who have contributed on a regular basis, as a thank you for all their hard work, there is a summer activity programme with holiday activities themed around wildlife and environment conservation throughout the Summer, for example visits to Shaldon Zoo, River Dart Country Park and Quince Honey Farm.
The youth sessions are run by Yannis, Jaz, Angel or Hayley on a Wednesday and Thursday from 4.30pm to 6.30 pm and on Saturday mornings from 11am to 1pm.  You can find out more about the youth activities on the Ellacombe Community Youth Project Facebook page.
If you would like to be involved or have any ideas or suggestions about how we should all move forward, please feel free to tell us, and for more information, please email Sarah at: Ecpartnership2017@hotmail.com.
