Coastguards and a lifeboat crew have rescued a boy clinging for life to a bouy off Brixham's Berry Head.

They say the incident highlights the danger of tomb stoning.

Paignton Coastguard team, Torbay's inshore lifeboat and a Rescue helicopter from Newquay were called to Berry Head on Friday July 7 at 12.38pm after a report of a male in the water clinging to a marker bouy just off Berry Head.
When the team arrived on scene, they could see a group of children in wet suits on and around Hairy Ledge.

One child was clinging to a marker bouy about 50m away holding on in a very tidal area. Coastguards could see the tide flowing around the boy as he held on.
The inshore lifeboat was soon on scene and recovered the child from the water. They then took him ashore to meet up with the Coastguard team.

The lifeboat also stayed on scene to make sure the children from Hairy Ledge who were now in the water, swam back to shore safely. Safety advice was given to the large group of children about the dangers of tomb stoning.
