Megan from the Wild Planet Trust visited
What a busy month for the English Riviera... glorious sunshine bringing everyone to the beaches, and the amazing English Rivera Airshow
From the Lancaster Bomber to the Red Arrows – I would question anyone who could say they thought it was boring.
It’s almost when the sun comes out that Torbay becomes a hive of activity, all the seasonal businesses come to life, the outside seating areas are filled with people in their summer outfits and the smell of fish and chips lingers around the town making even those on a strict diet want to cave in.
June has been a busy month for us at Fishcombe Cove. Wanting to make the most of this incredible weather, I decided to put on an array of events for people to enjoy.
We started with an educational talk on the seagrass we are lucky enough to have growing in abundance here, the evening saw Megan from the Wild Planet Trust taking centre stage on the decking and sharing the work they are doing in protecting the seagrass along with how we, as humans, can also do to help protect and raise awareness on this special plant that grows on our seabed.
With the evenings proving to be warm and pleasant, it only felt right to get some music at the Cove - two weekends from June has seen the Cove filled with families, friends, locals and visitors singing along to the beach classic anthems. Watching the sun set behind the land with your favourite tunes on in the background whilst people take an evening dip in the sea and enjoyed the beach has been quite magical.
Last Friday, saw us hosting the talented Jack Wotton who set the vibes for our first acoustic night at Fishcombe. The café reopened for the evening, serving drinks, David from Grove Woods Pizza joined us and cooked up delicious pizzas while we had our favourite, talented musicians down and set the scene with their music. These super-chilled, mellow evenings will be held every last Friday of the month, and possibly more frequently if you want us to.
July is here and we shall continue the events throughout the summer - please check out the social media pages for more updates and timings on our events @fishcombecovecafe.
We will soon see the return on our famous Burger Nights! If you don’t know the score by now, then every Wednesday from 6.30pm until 8pm, we open the front hatch and cook up a different meat and vegan burger every week, sometimes we decide to theme the night - we’ve had tropical night, we even themed it Spice Girls at one point.
And as before, there is no requirement to pre-book unless there’s a big party of you – it helps me out as I am the one cooking up the burgers. If you haven’t been before, all you need to bring with you is your camp chair, a blanket and let us do the rest by serving you cold beer and great burgers while you enjoy the sunset.
