Paignton Festival featuring special event for classic car lovers

Bookings are complete and final preparations are being made for this year’s Classic car show on Paignton North Green.
Torbay Old Wheels is a local car club for anyone who enjoys classic cars, you don’t even need to own one. Presented in partnership with Paignton Festival committee, the show has been running for over 25 years and it is now established as one of the favourites of exhibitors and spectators alike.
As always, there will be feature cars. This year, TOWC are proud to have an original Saint car, 71 DXC, the Volvo P1800, which was one of the first cars to be used and was even suggested by Roger Moore himself. There will also be the usual wide range of owners’ cars, everything from the early 1900s open tourers to Americana and modern crowd-pulling exotics. Visit www.towc.club for details.
For the younger Classic car fan, there is a “Modern Classics” section and the club stands, where sought-after models will be on display. TOWC are expecting motorcycles and scooters, who will have their own class section and there will be commercial vehicles for those who like their classics a little more rugged.
Free stage entertainment is scheduled throughout the day, a craft and shopping marquee, food outlets and a licensed bar, all managed by the Paignton Festival Committee as part of the week-long celebrations.
The Riviera Classic Car Show is probably unique in the car show world in that it is visited mainly by holiday makers and locals, rather than classic enthusiasts. This gives it a family day out feeling with picnics on the grass and lots of reminiscing about old family cars. Every year sees a new spark ignited in a young car fan or parent wanting to bring back that one car from his past.
Entry to the show is by voluntary donation of £2.50 per adult, with children under 12 free. These contributions are the major source of the monies the show raises for charity.
The show takes place on Sunday, July 23; exhibitors from around 8am (subject to show ground safety check release) and spectators from 10am.
