Bob Ward during his walk
Volunteer and fundraiser Bob Ward has presented £70 vouchers to 70 Torbay families after his fundraising 70km walk to mark his 70th birthday.
Bob set a target of £5,000 to raise when he braved wind and rain to pound the streets of Torbay earlier this year.
But his efforts raised £7,254 - so he was able to help 103 families as a result.
Bob, who volunteered for Eat That Frog during the pandemic lockdown, said: "We had a gathering in our garden at Torwood Gardens Road, Torquay, with some of our friends who had helped us raise funds, including local councillor Nick Bye, who has acted as an auctioneer for us at a couple of events.
"We shared the vouchers among five local charities. Most of the local charities attended our garden party and gave us all a little presentation on their work and how they would help the local community - over a glass of wine and some nibbles, of course!"
The charities supported were Paignton Community Larder, 35 vouchers; Ellacombe Community Partnership, 35 vouchers; Play Child Torbay, 10 vouchers; Gaia, three vouchers; NHS maternity unit, 10 vouchers and the women's centre at Patrick House, 10 vouchers.
