Torbay Tri Club's Paul Mulley headed down from the English Riviera to the French Riviera to complete another long distance triathlon at Ironman Nice.
Starting in the warm Mediterranean sea for the 2.4-mile swim, the route then headed out for a hilly 112-mile bike and finally on to a rolling marathon course.
Paul, who finished in 15:10:13, is no stranger to Ironman distance races and to complete one Ironman is impressive but to complete several takes unquestionable determination.
Meanwhile, numerous members headed to the welsh capital of Cardiff with sprint and standard distance triathlons on offer. In the standard distance, Cathy Parkinson took the age group win in the Olympic race in 2:34.07.
Donald Brooks took overall win in the Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championship Qualifier in 58.07 and Gary Burman came third in age group in 1.05.08 securing his well deserved spot for the world championships next year. Also qualifying after yet another amazing race was Emma Jefferys second age group and fourth lady in 1.11.03.
New member in his first race for Torbay Tri, was Roger Brewer who was 10th age group in 1.43.58.
Heading over the border into Cornwall, two club members lined up for the Bude Shoreline Sprint Tri which provided good conditions with a calm sea and accompanied with great scenery.
Andy Longthorpe was fourth in MV40 age group, ninth overall in a time of 1.05.22. Frank Reay was second in MV60 age group, 27th overall in a time of 1.13.03
Chris Martin went north for the Celtman Solo Point Five which gives competitors the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of Celtman, in the same stunning location and using much of the main course. Swimming in cold water, riding the UK’s highest pass and enjoying a fabulous trail run Chris finished in a superb 78th position in 8:00:14
The Winding Paths Summer 10k at Darlington saw Brenda Finley and Linda Thomson-Wild tackle the mixed terrain route with a few hills thrown in for good. Brenda finished in 01:18:28 while Linda came in 01:21:53. Linda did particularly well as it's her first run in the Devon hills which she found a challenge!
The ever-popular local event organiser Sportiva held their Riviera Swim on Sunday. With a mix of distances saw several club members demonstrating their swim pedigree.
Becky Langman came home as first overall in the 3km race in 46:40. Simon Mills took third in the V50 age group in a time of 1:07:44 and Rachel Carter who is deep in training for a long distance event at the end of summer finished in an impressive 1:14:07.
In the 750m race, Rose Parkhouse overcame the slightly choppy waters to win the V60 age group in 17:21.
Peter Hayward and Laraine Gibbins raced a slightly more unusual type of event hosted by Madhatter in Cornwall. The hourglass is an endurance event with a difference. Runners have to run two-mile laps within the time limit starting at 30 minutes and reducing by one minute until there is one participant left. Pacing is key, go hard and you’ll have more time to recover but you will also increase the chances of burning out early.
Peter managed to complete 12 full laps taking him to 24 miles and Laraine completed nine full laps taking her to a total distance of 18 miles.
