Community Matters: Come along to find out more about Timebanking

Timebanking is about allowing those who are already, or would like to be, active in their neighbourhoods

Timebanking is about allowing those who are already, or would like to be, active in their neighbourhoods.
You can give time to others and earn a time credit at the same time. For every hour that is given, someone in your community has been supported without money changing hands.
You may have helped a neighbour out, or just been a listening ear in times of need. Whatever is offered has exactly the same value; one credit for one hour.
Time credits can be earned, spent, or donated between anyone. The credits you have accumulated will be saved for a time you want to use them yourself. Giving time to your neighbourhood can have a remarkable effect on your personal well-being and that of others.
To find out more about it our Timebank venues are expanding, I will be in Torquay at Temperance Street every Monday from 10.30am as well as my usual Paignton venues - see below for addresses.
At Temperance Street as well as finding out more about the Timebank, you can have coffee, breakfast, and lunch, it’s all delicious and very reasonable.
There are many offers and requests on the Timebank, one offer that caught my eye was ‘heart and soul coaching’. If you feel stuck in a rut but feel you could get far more from life, this is for you!
Have a look at the Timebank or contact me for more information. There are so many different offers on the website that I’m quite sure you would find something of interest.
How about ideas for crafting? Do you need some help with a smart phone or even setting up a smart television? Or do you have a skill you would like to share?
If you need more information or help to join there are various places we meet at:
Bright Bean Café in Preston opposite Tesco, from 2pm every Wednesday
Crafty Fox in Foxhole on the first Friday in the month from 10.30am
Hyperspace café in Lidl Square every Tuesday from 10.30am
Torbay Community Café and Help Hub, Temperance Street, every Monday from 10.30am.
Come along for information or to join, have a coffee and meet other like-minded people.
If you use a computer, Torbay Together is the online platform for the Timebank at www.devonconnect.org/torbay
Register on the platform - but then you need to do a little bit more and fill in another form to join the Torbay Timebank. If you don’t use a computer, I can help. Come along to one of our regular meetings or give me a ring.
To contact Ruth, email ruthtshoukas@torbaycdt.org.uk or call 07703 715 236.
