The Mousetrap 70th anniversary tour

The 70th anniversary tour of The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the world, is coming to author Agatha Christie's home town of Torquay in time for the English Riviera's Agatha Christie Festival in September.

The cast of the iconic murder-mystery on tour includes Todd Carty, of EastEnders, Grange Hill and Dancing on Ice, as Major Metcalf and Catherine Shipton, best known for playing Lisa ‘Duffy’ Duffin in BBC drama Casualty, as Mrs Boyle.

They will be joined by Rachel Dawson as Mollie Ralston, Michael Lyle as Giles Ralston, Shaun McCourt as Christopher Wren, Leigh Lothian as Miss Casewell, Steven Elliot as Mr Paravicini, and Garyn Williams as Detective Sgt Trotter.

As news spreads of a murder in London, a group of seven strangers find themselves snowed in at Monkswell Manor, a stately countryside guesthouse. When a police sergeant arrives, the guests discover - to their horror - that a killer is in their midst. One by one, the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts. Which one is the murderer? Who will be their next victim?

The Mousetrap premiered at Theatre Royal Nottingham in 1952 with Richard Attenborough and his fellow film-star and wife Sheila Sim in the leading role, and toured the UK before opening in the West End where it continues its record-breaking engagement at the St Martin’s Theatre, 70 years on.

The iconic thriller’s 70th anniversary tour is marking the milestone anniversary by visiting over 70 theatres, including all cities to which it originally played 70 years ago, plus many more.

The play is being performed at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, to coincide with the English Riviera's Agatha Christie Festival in September celebrating the world’s best-selling novelist of all time. Dame Agatha's books have sold billions of copies around the world - many more than any other author except Shakespeare and The Bible.
