Tom Ward ran the 400m
After the successes from the previous week's Devon schools champs, five Torbay Athletic Club members were selected to represent Devon schools in the South West schools champs.
With near-perfect weather conditions, some quality performances were achieved.
Two became South West schools champions - Keeley Little took the junior girls' 100m title winning in a swift 12.50 sec, while at senior girl level in her final year, Estelle Roots won the 200m in 25.13 sec.
Estelle also placed second in the 100m in 12.30 sec. At inter girl level, Olivia Hayes contested the 100m and 200m. Favouring the 100m, she won her heat in a new personal best time of 12.27 sec. In the final she narrowly lost, placing second in another PB time of 12.21 sec.
Moving up a distance, Tom Ward ran a hard committed race from the start in the inter boys' 400m, to smash his PB clocking 52.14 sec to place an excellent second.
The club's only middle distance competitor was Theo Glew in the junior boys' 1,500m, running a solid race to place seventh in 4:28.31.
Keeley, Olivia and Estelle all have the tough English schools entry standards in the sprints, and will await selection for the English schools champs in two weeks' time in Birmingham, along with Paige Quinn in the junior girls' 1,500m who had to withdraw from the South West champs.
The same day Georgina Scoot was at Chelmsford competing in the England Athletics under-20 champs. Back from Princeton University, she dominated the triple jump winning the national title with a best jump of 12.84m, a new PB which now ranks her number one under-20 in the UK.
