Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival welcomed audiences for an inspiring and thought-provoking Spring Weekend, as six authors took to the stage at St Peter’s Church.

The two-day programme on March 13 and 14 explored a wide range of topics – from mental health and environmental crime to politics, Europe, food science and fashion, with speakers Dr Gavin Francis, Simon Hart, Dr Jack Mosley, Marina Wheeler KC, Julia Shaw and retail consultant and broadcaster Mary Portas OBE.

Sue Briggs, chair of Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival, said: “We were delighted to welcome such an inspiring group of speakers for this year’s Spring Weekend. The conversations were engaging, thought-provoking and hugely enjoyable, and it was wonderful to see audiences so enthusiastic and involved. The weekend offered exactly what the festival aims to provide – new ideas, fresh perspectives and a shared love of books and conversation.

“Thank you to the excellent authors, our sponsors, partners, trustees and committed volunteers who work hard to ensure the event goes smoothly.”

The Spring Weekend forms part of the festival’s annual programme, with the main Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival taking place from September 23–27, 2026.

Tickets for September go on sale in July. For more information visit www.budlitfest.org.uk
