Toll charges for Northam Burrows Country Park are set to resume next month, with season tickets going on sale this week.
Torridge District Council has confirmed that the seasonal charges will come back into effect on Friday, April 3, marking the start of the spring and summer tourism period for the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Frequent visitors can secure unlimited access by purchasing a season ticket from Monday, March 9.
The tickets are priced at £70, with an additional £3 postage fee for those ordering remotely.
In a move designed for household flexibility, the council allows two vehicles to be registered to a single ticket.
However, rangers have clarified that only one of those vehicles may be inside the park at any given time.
How to purchase:
Online: via the Torridge District Council website (www.torridge.gov.uk/northamburrows)
Phone: by contacting the customer services team.
In person: from the toll kiosk once the season begins on April 3.
The 253-hectare park is a cornerstone of the North Devon coastline, featuring a unique ecosystem of salt marshes and sand dunes. It also serves as a primary gateway to the Blue Flag beach at Westward Ho!.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, lead member for culture and community engagement, said the tickets offer a way for residents and tourists alike to make the most of the area’s “wide-open space”.
“After all the rain we’ve had, we are really hoping for a warm sunny summer,” she said. “We all deserve it after a long winter, and there is nowhere better to enjoy it than down on the Burrows.”
The park’s ranger team is expected to host a series of guided events and activities throughout the season to highlight the rare plants and wildlife that call the coastal plain home.
