Stuart has been a long time servant to the club with nearly 10 years of service, dedication and love. He has been a mainstay in helping Tavistock AFC climb the football pyramid over previous years, culminating in promotion to the Southern Football League, Division One in 21/22.”

The statement added:

“Unfortunately there is always time for change, and that time is now. Our Chairman would like to personally thank Stuart for his years of service, friendship and loyalty to all those associated with Tavistock AFC.

“We would also like to wish Stuart and Darren all the best in their future endeavours, and look forward to welcoming them back to Langsford Park soon.

In his own statement, Stuart Henderson said the decision followed a meeting with the club.

“Following a meeting today, the Club and I have mutually agreed that a change in direction is required with regard to the First Team management.”

He reflected on his busy decade at Langsford Park.

“Spending ten years at Tavistock AFC has been a period of dedicated service, hard work and shared achievement.”

Henderson said he began his journey working alongside Ken Ord as assistant and had been supported over the past three seasons by Darren Spong.

“I thank them both sincerely for their loyalty, commitment and support throughout.”

He highlighted the club’s impressive rise through the non-league system.

“From competing in the South West Peninsula League (Step 6), where we secured league titles and promotion, to moving into the Western League (Step 5), and ultimately reaching the Southern League Division One South (Step 4), where Tavistock has now competed for four consecutive seasons, the development of the football club over that period has been clear.”

Henderson also pointed to memorable FA Cup ties the club has partaken in.

“As a Step 6 side, defeating Taunton Town, then competing at Step 3, was a standout moment and a real reflection of the belief and character within the squad. Competing against clubs such as Welling United further demonstrated how far the Club had progressed.”

Stuart admitted this season had been difficult for the Lambs.

“Competing at Step 4 level brings significant financial demands, including player wages, travel commitments, match official costs and the everyday running of the ground.”

He added:

“Following the departure of several established players during the summer, we have also faced challenges in attracting and retaining the calibre of players required at this level. That combination has made this campaign a difficult one.”

Despite this, he said:

“I remain proud of the effort shown by the players and staff throughout.”

Calling the decision “not an easy” one, Henderson said it was “the right time for both the Club and myself to move forward in different directions.”

He thanked everyone connected with Tavistock AFC, including players, staff, volunteers, sponsors and supporters.

“Non-league football relies on committed people, and I have been fortunate to work alongside many dedicated individuals over the past decade.”

Henderson concluded:

“It has been a privilege to manage this football club. I leave with respect for the Club and gratitude for the support shown to me during my time here.”

Tavistock AFC say a further announcement will be made in the coming days.
