Public meeting called over major route linking Plymouth and Dartmoor

A council is inviting residents who live near a busy roundabout to a public meeting about a £156m plan to upgrade it.

Plymouth City Council said 300 households in the Eggbuckland area were welcome to attend the meeting to better understand plans for the proposed revamp of Manadon roundabout, which links the A38 and Tavistock Road.

Councillor Chris Wood said there had been a “comprehensive consultation” involving more than 12,000 residents, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Under the plans, the roundabout would feature wider entrances, bus priority lanes, and new cycle and pedestrian bridges.

The council said the results showed support for the majority of traffic and road layout changes, but there were concerns over trees, biodiversity and wildlife, as well as potential diversions and disruption.

It said improvements to the proposed pedestrian and cycling upgrades, including a new cycle bridge, were backed by residents.

Work has begun on using the feedback to create a more detailed design, which residents will be consulted on later this year, the council said.

It added that the next version would include more detail than before, particularly around the scale of impact on existing features around the roundabout.

The meeting at William Sutton Village Hall begins at 18:00 GMT later today (8 January).
